Default Not RAN but an interesting item

Can anyone tell me anything about the Australian RMYC in WW2? Here is a Royal Motor Yacht Club bullion epaulette, which indicates they must have had a uniform. Why? What? Strange that it uses a King's crown similar to that of an army major. I understand that some of their members volunteered in WW2 for the Naval Auxiliary Patrol.

It is one of few button designs which has been 'shared' by two owners. but they did not know about each other.
In your query, the button belongs to "The Royal Melbourne Yacht Club".
