Default Messenger titles

I have been collecting Civil Defence Messenger titles for a while but now this red version has come my way, could it be NFS?

Rob,
My first thoughts were also NFS or AFS.

Before CD badges became a standard yellow on blue the breast badge and the optional local authority markings were red on blue.

Blue battledress for the CD began to appear in March 1941 but official titles did not appear until that September and I'm more inclined to suggest that the red on blue Messenger title was an unofficial item for CD from that period.

The NFS did have messengers but I have never seen evidence of them wearing titles.

Happy to be proved wrong.

Jon
