Thanks Alan I did wonder but thought it too large to be a collar badge.

They were the same size as the cap badges.

The first pattern cap badges are 50mm high and 30mm wide with a slider.

ORs' Collars were lugged and issued in facing pairs to be worn on tunics from after the Corps' formation in 1920 until circa 1940 when battledress came in.

The collars were also worn in No 1 dress

The sealed pattern card is here: http://www.iwm.org.uk/collections/item/object/30102990 (dimensions for the cap badge is 51mm by 29mm)

Some pattern cards and other examples are here:

http://www.iwm.org.uk/collections/se...page=10&page=1

1st pattern Cap badge circa 50-51mm x 30mm high for offrs and ORs.

1st pattern Collar badges 38-41 mm x approx. 20mm for both offrs and soldiers.

The plastic economy was also smaller than the bimetal one it replaced in common with many of the plastic economys.

There is also a k/c silver/gilt collar badge in reduced dimensions which I suspect was for the lapels of the officers' best uniforms as the 40mm ones for officers SD were in bronze. http://www.iwm.org.uk/collections/item/object/30103013

All replaced by the lone 'jimmy' with out the circlet from 1948. The cap and collars are only distinguishable by the fittings as the crown is separate and in some cases they are both lugged so are interchangeable.
