Default KC Royal Ulster Rifles cap badge query

good afternoon, I wonder if anyone can give me a little info on this badge that I picked up today. It would appear to be a standard RUR Kings Crown cap badge but the harp is perforated between the strings and it has an almost cast appearance from the reverse with a Gaunts mark to the actual badge. Its made of brass (needs a good clean). Is this a normal badge or something out of the norm?

many thanks as always

Dave

Dave,

As the harp is facing right it is a Collar Badge not a cap badge.

It is an OSD (Officers Service Dress) bronze collar.

regards

many thanks Simon, hadn't thought of a collar badge due to its more or less full size of a cap badge.

regards, dave

That really is a very nice example, you just need to find another, facing example, to have a superb pair.

I do wonder if this is a WW1 badge as it came with an 1895 Austrian shell & pair of 37mm pom poms and some old non military badges. It was the shells I was after!

It certainly appears, from the photographs, to have very considerable age, so, in that case, it would actually be a Royal Irish Rifles collar.
