In 1914 some New Zealand soldiers did wear the felt hat peaked /lemon squeezer style . Units that did include ,the New Zealand Field Artillery ,Otago Mounted Rifles and the Wellington Infantry Regiments .However the wearing of the ''lemon squeezer'' style didn't become universal until mid to late 1916 . The soldiers in the photo's posted are British Section NZEF .They are ''mostly'' New Zealanders who were in the UK at the outbreak of the war ,and formed a unit in the UK .They had uniforms that were distinct from that of the Main Body that sailed from New Zealand . |

What Jean-Paul meant to say,in his basic english,is that Kiwis were some of the best fighters even though they were not the most numerous on the Western Front.....
Some other would say the Australians and us Canucks deserved a mention here.....after all by the end of the war, the Germans considered us (Australians and Canadians) schock troops.......troubles happening, for the Huns, whenever we showed up sowhere on the front...... Jo
