Default Unknown badge

Can anyone tell me what this is and which country? It looks like it's somehow connected with Italian artillery, but I can't find anything about it anywhere. It has large loops on the back and is just over 2" in diameter; white metal. I wonder if it's for a pith helmet.

Thanks for this Jo. Too bad the number's missing. My brother-in-law picked it up at the Sussex Flea Market in New Brunswick about a week ago.

Any idea if it's WW2 or still current?
