It looks like a commemorative marriage pin. I need to check the Royal family of the day but I suspect L is the bride (a Royal princess) and F is the groom - or vice versa. Imperial crown so late 19th/very early 20th century. Perhaps there is a learned royalist out there who can put names to letters. May be entirely up the wrong street, of course ! Regards. David

Legion of Frontiersmen is the likely organization.

Hi folks,

The "LF" does look very much like the "LF" used by the Legion of Frontiersmen.

Below are Two Officer’s 1st Pattern Gilt flat (open backed) buttons to the Legion of Frontiersmen.

23mm – Backmark “AUSTIN & OAKER LONDON. W”.
16mm – NO backmark.

Not saying it is the Legion of Frontiersmen, just that the "LF" looks similar.

Note: I have also shown the later second pattern button just as a matter of completeness.

Cheers

Ian

Ian - Based on the first button design, I have no doubt that this badge is Legion of Frontiersmen - probably a collar badge (lugs n & s). Not a unit I have ever bothered with as they are quasi military. Regards. David

As usual you guys are great.
If I cant find something on the internet it is often because it is rare.
This may not apply here but it is always best to see the value of the actual badge.
I was fortunate to acquire these in a buy recently and although my knowlege of military is limited a number of these badges looked differant to the run of the mill.
They are and a number will be for sale on www.bidorbuy.co.za user name "geewhizz"
I just need to research the lot
