I don't know Griff-need some more input- only small o without line I have come across- I guess it could be faint and covered by the blacking? No sign of the line to my eye though. Regards, Paul.
PS Very unsure what makes a good Welsh Cyclist badge at the moment.

This is the way I look at it... the bronze (my badge) is 100% and its Great War period.... I have seen two or three of the same example in other collections and they have the same mark and slider. So therefore....... you would expect to see the same mark and slider from the same period for different Regiments badges made by the same company? But ..... it could be that slider length is determined by requirement so its not set in stone I am sure

I have an image example of a Lambourne Bim Welsh Regiment .... I shall dig it out and see what slider it has?

Only had the front image sadly (its a bit "cap curved" as well).... but this is a Wm one piece with the Coronet and scroll braized on.

I have also attached a brass? (probably an "oxidised" Bim) Cheshire Yeo by Lambourne & Co.... that one has the underscore by the looks?

Default Lambourne marked Welch

Hi all,

No underscore to the o in Co, one piece badge and a wonky striking to the slider? Not sure so over to more knowledgable members please, cheers Dean.

Hi Dean,
Nothing wrong with that badge other than its the usual awful Lambourne quality. It's exactly the same as one I have with the underscore clearly visible. I would guess that the mark just hasn't been as forcefully applied to the shank so that the underscore doesn't show.
Hwyl,
Kevin

Many thanks Kevin,

I was aware that Lambourne-marked badges were often poor quality so just wanted to check, cheers Dean.

http://www.gracesguide.co.uk/Lambournes

Lambournes diversified into metal badges during WW1 and did not have the same quality tooling as the pre war makers.

I have watched 3 sell on ebay in as many months. This would seem to have rather too high a frequency for a single battalion's badge eeven allowing for wartime expansion.

Alan
I think that rather reinforces my view that these square block font types are copies. However don't forget that there were 2nd & 3rd line battalions raised during the war. I now have a good officer's collar complete with mm for Gaunt London & what I believe is an officer's cap badge to the 7th. These along with 17 OSD bronze & 16 ORs examples that I have all have markedly different fonts than the badge in question.

Hello Kevin. I take it the 16 ORs badges are Welsh Regiment makers variations-have you encountered an ORs badge yet that you feel is a good 7th Bn example? Regards, Paul.

Well 5 minutes with a search engine produces:

One

http://www.gnmilitaria.co.uk/viewpho...h=18698&phqu=2

2,3,4,5 and 6 on ebay (plus some other fakes)

https://www.worthpoint.com/inventory...adge&category=

7

http://www.britisharmybadges.com/viewphoto.php?x=1

8

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/5607-THE-W...p2047675.l2557

9

http://mindenmilitaria.com/viewphoto...h=50759&phqu=3

There are far more out there. Whilst I would like to think that these are all correct, there does seem to be rather a large number of them in rather good (you could almost say perfect) condition compared to the number of badges from similarly sized battalions who existed from 1908-20.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/7th-Battal...%257Ciid%253A1

As these Square font blackened badges get more wear the price seems to be going up - now £35

I am still looking for one of these: http://www.britishbadgeforum.com/for...9&d=1413118826 which has a period style of font.
