Default WRNS badge I.D.

Hello,

Can someone I.D. this badge for me? It is 5cm by 5.5cm approx. so is to small to be a regulators badge?

Thanks in advance,

Andy

Andy I think its WRNS Regulator. I understand the WRCNS blue badges were smaller than the ratings badges, I have the small example in KC.

& I have not forgotten your request to post some of the RN rate badges from books I have. I will try to do that very soon as I get it organized,

Hello Bryan,

Thanks for the input

I'm not so sure that it is a regulators badge. All the WRNS badges that I have are the same size as the male equivalent. To illustrate what I mean about it being smaller I have uploaded a picture.

When I was at HMS Raleigh in the late 80's, I seem to remember that the class leaders had special badges. I can remember stars, but can't remember if there were crowns.

No rush for the Pictures, when your ready

Andy I know the WRNS Chevrons (GCB's) were smaller than the ratings,& I was told the rates were smaller as well, but this may be wartime. I am not that knowledgable on the modern blue WRCNS badges tho. I have seen some on ebay from time to time.

Thanks Bryan,

I have only just started picking WRNS badges up again after selling what I had a few years back.

I am sure someone out there knows the answer...........................

Andy I have attached photos of the WRNS Regulators crowns I have
(2 KC examples) & 1 red ratings example -- they appear to be approx the same size.

& below is a WRNS GCB (or at least what I think is a WRNS GCB)
in comparison to a rating's GCB -
quite a size difference!

Thanks Bryan

Sorry for the delay in replying I take it then that your Regulators badges are the same size as the one in my first post? If so, what is the reason for this? All the other WRNS badges that I have and have seen are the same size as the RN versions. I was aware that WRNS good conduct badges where smaller, being about the same size as S.C.C. ones.

Yes I think the same size as your Regulator's badge Andy - but unable to
answer your question why some small & some regular size?

David Howell might know - perhaps he will pick up on this topic & possibly give us an answer.

Some the 2WW period WRCNS badges I have are the regular ratings size,

The badge is a WRNS Crown large for addition to badges. These badges, which are also available for male ratings, were supplied in two sizes. large for addition to arm badges and small for addition to CPO's collar and cuff badges.

To illustrate the differences attached is a picture showing the WRNS and Red on Blue Regulators arm badges as compaired to a WRNS Crown large, and a Red on blue Crown small.

Royston is correct in they were used by the WRNS Headquarters Reserve. My sources tell me the Supervisor Grade wore the small version as collar badges on battledress while the Grade 1 Rating (PO equivalent) wore the large version on the left cuff.
