It appears to be a genuine collar badge. Hopefully a SIH specialist will be able to confirm that.

Hi Martyn,

I'm certainly no SIH specialist, but I would concur with Alan's assessment.

Of the two or maybe three accepted (?) obverse pattern designs surrounding the cap/collar, this is personally my preferred type - no other reasoning than it just appeals to me more and possibly because such is known to come with provenance too.

As already mentioned there are guys on here that are more familiar with these badges, so I'm sure they'll comment in due course.
