Default Middlesex with blow holes

Good Morning

Two Middlesex badges with blow holes. I'm happy with these but welcome opinions. The one appears to be an officer's collar dog with two vertical lugs. Can this badge be dated to any particular period?

I have a collection of badges that I'm trying to sort out.
Many of these badges were bought a while ago and I'm just trying to sort out the good and the bad and the good ones into date periods as close as possible.

Many thanks

Martyn

Smile Middlesex badges

Martyn,
As far as I am concerned, from your photo image both look fine, others may tell you different, but as to age, cap badge and collar 1895-1957.

These are standard other ranks badges.

Many thanks Rob

They are nicely designed badges and seem to have nice detail and look well made so hopefully they are good. With blow holes does that generally pre date ww2? I'm not sure but I think that I read that somewhere. Do you know if this is correct?

All the best

Martyn

I think the general acceptance is that slidered badges like this would be post-1906. Before that it would have been lugs.
Cheers,
Alex

To be precise with the introduction of the 'Brodrick' cap to replace the field service cap then badges were authorised to be produced with sliders from Feb 03.

In the event the Brodrick was unpopular and from 1905 they were replaced (it took some years for some regts) by the peaked field cap. The design did not suit the long sliders which were often shortened to sit lower to the peak. In 1906 the short slider was authorised.

Note that in India et al the FSC continued to be worn up to the 1st World War.
