I just said that PB, but decided to delete as it was 5 cm's. You think a collar then. Also, looks like dirty white metal maybe.

Simon.

I feel that I have seen this badge somewhere and that it's a Field Service cap badge, but I may be wrong.

The lack of the South Africa battle honour dates it pre 1905.

Hi Paul.

If this is a genuine item, as in proper badge and not a fake, what you have is an Other Ranks helmet plate centre, (KK 326) with the scroll removed and as Thomas points out, pre 1905.

The reason I mention proper badge, is that those I have seen were all clearly a white metal badge.

I have seen a few, but all with a brooch fitting, for, I suspect wear on a glengarry.

If genuine, (which I hope it is) it is also very likely that your item was also adapted for a glengarry but to be fixed with lugs and a pin.

Regards

Brian
