Army Catering Corps Rank Armband
I found on You Tube - link below - an interesting film from 1960 on the ACC in Aldershot.
Apart from producing some very unsoldierlike food, at 2 mins 5 secs into the film there is a clear shot of a black rank armband with red chevrons. A new one on me. Anyone know anything about it or have an example to share? Jon https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TI_-0AlEeMU |

A little before my time but used before the introduction of the small chrome metal pin-back titles which were worn on the left chest or sometimes a wristlet if a S/Sgt Master Chef. The ACC Apprentices did however carry on wearing a white armband with the apprentice type Black/Red Chevrons to distinguish them from the big boys when in Chef whites certainly up until the late 90's when I was last at Aldershot and likely beyond. Paul Not the best photo attached but the Apprentice L/Cpl with the Butchers Jacket on is wearing a white armband with black and red chevron |

The guys in the footage look a bit old too be apprentices, so I wonder if it was before the introduction of chrome pin back rank badges, an interesting one.

Screen capture of chevrons. The cap badge in wear without scroll predates it to pre 1973 - Soundtrack says they are Senior NOC's on a course and film is dated 1960 correct with the wearing of Battle Dress by the Officers and 'customers' in canteen which at the School of Catering (The old St Omar Barracks before the tower block) were other soldiers under training at the school.
