Default That Motto :- For "Mooke"

Dean

That post 1960 Gaunt "heavy" S/P SD Cap motto in your album was made at the same time as the first chrome belt motto.... it has the same male die image.

* It might be worth dropping it in some silver dip to see if there is anything left on it? It looks almost completely white metal..... there should be some silver plate left on it somewhere..... unless, of course, it was just a white metal in the first place? How long are the loops on it?

** It could actually be a belt motto that had the pin through the loops for the old fittings.... rather than the shanks seen on the chrome.... if the loops are short.

Many thanks Griff,

I shall have a look for traces of silver plating and measure the loops for you.

We had s baby 10 days a go and so life as we know it has been adjusted joyfully. Think the little chap will collect cavalry badges.

Cheers Dean

Thanks chaps - my first two are 23 and 21 so having a baby after re-marrying many years ago is quite a family event to say the least!

Over the moon, cheers Dean.

Some traces of silver plate left thanks Griff. It is a heavy cast badge with traces of whitish silver cleaning paste in recesses. Loops are 9.5mm in length.

Cheers Dean

Thanks Dean....looks like its an SD Cap Motto then, those loops are a little long for the belt buckle. But definitely a post 1960 Gaunt motto for the 17th/21st Lancers and made at the same time as the chromed belt motto for the ORs.
