Default 4th Battalion The Buffs cap badge

I would appreciate views on this badge;

I have found this one to compare with;
https://www.the-saleroom.com/en-us/a...bos10008/lot-f

It looks to have the same details in common to me.

Many thanks fred

Fake I'm afraid, the over polishing to the wings and that rubbish to the scroll at the rear bottom are dead give away's.

Saleroom link not working for me. Similar to the fake you show is seen on eBay for £8 or £12. Regards, Paul.

Bosley one also looks dodgy. The tip of the tail should not touch-be joined to the rest of the tail. Regards, Paul.

Hi Gents,
Here is i.m.o a genuine 4th Bn the Buffs cap badge. This badge is generally found in blackened brass. This one has had the blackening rubbed off but is clearly visible on the reverse.

Colin, nice badge. Can you confirm the end point of tail is not actually joined to the main part of the tail? I don't think it is-just bent to nearly touch. Regards, Paul.

Hi Paul,
I can confirm the end of the tail is not joined onto the main body of the tail.
This can make the end of the tail vulnerable to breaking.
Indeed I have a 1st V.B the Buffs badge which has the same issue and unfortunately the end part of the tail has broken away on that item.
Regards
Colin

Bit concerned by the blob on the back of the scroll. Thoughts?

If it was die struck then that should not be there but if it has been cast........

The 4th V.B. Buffs badge is a cast copy.

Front and back of a good badge below, night and day difference.

The Upper Thames Patrol listed today is also not genuine.

That's what I thought. Shame on the dealer as it's an obvious 'tell'.

I too can see that it is a cast badge. Look at the extended leg and one can see the filled in area remaining from the casting.
