20th Battalion or 20th Foot ?
Interesting item:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Very-Rare...53.m1438.l2649 but I think it is more likely to be a regular or militia battalion item. Seller presumably thinks it might sell better with a WW1 connection. P.B.

Hi Peter,
I'm a bit confused with attached if it is 19th Bn or 3rd Salford Pals but would guess the dog was likely to be looked after by the 3rd Bn (Militia) and its home was the Depot at Bury. Paul http://www.lancs-fusiliers.co.uk/gal...hBN/19thBN.htm |

Its Lancashire Fusiliers post 1881 though.
The LF's retained the old 20th Foot roman numerals XX long after their creation and can be seen on fairly modern buttons. Nothing to do with 20th Bn. Probably 1st or 2nd Bn. regards

I did wonder, if the item is large enough, that it might be a mounted officers shabraque ?
P.B.

I'd go along with the significance of the "XX" as indicating a 20th Foot rather than 20th Bn of the Lancashire Fusiliers item.
