It's not proof, but I brought these back from my time working in Nepal in 1991/1992. I was actually working for the-then Royal Nepalese Army, but lived in the BGN Compound in Kathmandu. The sign and Union Flag were worn by the ex-British Army Gurkhas who worked as BGN's civilian security personnel. The sign also featured on letter headings and signs etc. I can't identify the second sign you posted.

Marc, Mike, have you tried contacting the Gurkha museum in Winchester?

The design - but not the method of manufacture - is that of the final pattern 48 Gurkha Inf Bde. My example is printed black kukris on red.

Their web site showing the sign board and flag was where I got the initial identification from. But no images of anybody wearing a badge.

Yes, the reply prompted me to ask on here.

"The badges appear to be repro copies of “Gurkha Field Force” and “British Gurkhas Nepal” unit Identifying flashes. They do not look official issue and I would be wary of including them in a publication as official British Army."

As Mike has posted the colours are right for '48 Gurkha Inf Bde' ('Gurkha Field Force') but not the design as I know it.

Marc

Email now on the way to Nepal.

The one on the left was/is worn by the civilian employess at Depot Nepal. Worn on a blue shirt, with the union jack and a title BGN (British Gurkhas Nepal) As can be seen the quality of the badge is not good.

Steve

Thank you very much, that is just what I was after.

Now just the red one?
