Looking for information about WWII SAAF squadron badges/insignias
Hello everyone,
Were there any SAAF fighter/fighter-bomber squadrons in WWII that had their own badge or insignia? So far, I've only managed to find about 1-2. Any help is appreciated! |

Virtually all the SAAF WW2 squadrons had badges - some even went through several completely different designs as they were disbanded and reformed (often in a very different role). They were also designed and approved at squadron level and were not officially approved by higher authority. That only happened after WW2.
The squadron badges used by the SAAF in the war is virtually a study on its own - one which I have been busy with over the last few years. I am lucky to have a complete set of examples (not including the numerous manufacturer variations) of all the known metal squadron and wing badges as worn by members on their tunic and battledress pockets in North Africa and Italy. |
