Hi Colin

The l/h badge is Danish, Schleswig Foot Regiment (1991 Schöller, Carl-Gustav Hærens afdelingsmærker efter 1945 [Army departmental marks after 1945] p. 225 & Pl.3 #22).

Regards

Graham

Colin, you're right hand badge is a collar badge of the Rotherham Corporation Tramways / Rotherham Corporation Transport.

Interesting collection of heraldic devices there. I wonder what the origins are, particualrly as they seem quite different from the municipal arms of the city itself.

One of the local foundries, Walkers, a high quality cannon maker, made, amongst other things, some of the guns for HMS Victory, hence the cannon shield. The local glass works manufactures items for the pharmaceutical industry, hence the medical symbol. As for the three stags, I have no idea.

Wow! Thank you, Hoot. Are you a resident of Rotherham, or simply very well informed?

Many of the civic coats of arms on this side of the Atlantic are ghastly things, clearly put together by committees of blind councillors with no sense of history nor knowledge of the basics or heraldry, and I wondered if perhaps this was someone's flight nof fancy, but you explanation is wonderful. Thanks again.

Peter, no, I'm not from Rotherham and I'm not too well informed either but, as well as my interest in militaria, I am also very interested in old tramways insignia.

Good on ya, as the Aussies say. Everybody should be well versed in one [useless] field of human knowledge, or what are graduate schools for?
