Default Coldstream Guards

I'm after opinions on whether this cap star has been gilt/gilded at any time.
Many thanks
Andy

I don't think so.
If it had been gilded there would have been no need to polish it and it wouldn't be so worn. If it had been gilded after it had been worn like that, I would have expected the centre to be shinier.
Cheers,
Alex

It may have been gilded but as with a lot of plated badges it may have been cleaned at a later date by a new owner who didn't know any better, or that's the original Finnish of the badge that you can see and has only been rubbed to keep the centre shiny with a thumb at regular intervals perhaps.

Just my thoughts though.

Thanks chaps, on the outer edge of the garter strap from 3-6 o'clock is what i believe to be gilding.
