A clarification, an un-authorized badge does not mean the badge was not made or worn. Many CEF badges were made and worn, but without official approval. There is no record or official documentation that approves the 7th Battalion officers' pattern collars.
Joe Harper referenced Harker's history of the Dukes regarding the officers' collars.

Default re: bronze miniature version of the 7th cap badge

I saw one of these for sale on someone's website. It had a pin back like a brooch. Is it a sweetheart brooch or a collar badge?

Cox states that the 7th Bn CEF cap badge was produced in bimetal for soldiers and in bronze and silver for officers.
Am I correct in considering ny attached badge as an officer's? It is mounted and with small oval 'Hicks & Sons London' plaque. Moreover the back is typical OSD bz finish.

The officers' badges are listed as gilt on brass in another reference. The wm overlay on bronze or darkened leaf is typical of other ranks' badges. I would take Cox with a grain of salt. It is a good overall reference, but many of the details need to be double checked.)
