Default New the 3rd hussars

Hi, picked up this very strange badge. It looks brand new but over engineered. I've not see anything like it. Any ideas? For comparison I've include both versions, thanks in advance, Mike

A bit OTT in the construction, but IMHO its a fake no dash under the RD of the 3rd.

Hi

I agree, IMO its an elaborate fake/copy. Though why anyone would wish to go to these lengths?

As Malcolm images show on genuine badges the scroll has a shallow curve, on the badge in question it is deep. I believe this is also mentioned in Lawrence Archers notes.

Hi Rob and Malc, my feelings exactly, they even went to the extent of drilling the slider so it could be riveted. Why so elaborate? Has anyone seen other badges like this? It's usually the other way round, saying how poor the copy is, but in all respects this is very well made. It must have been made for something and it certainly wouldn't pass as an original, I think they changed in 1930. Thanks for the replies and best wishes, Mike

Complete dross in my opinion, looks like it was made last week!

Hi Frank, that is my opinion as well, the question is, have any other badges been seen and why would anyone go to such lengths. I don't think it is a one off and I certainly don't think it is a 1930's badge, I'm just very curious, Mike

Hello Mike,
Well all I can tell you is that I've never seen one like that, but, I'm not a cavalry collector, here is the last one I bought.
Kind regards Frank

Could it be from one of "collectors" sets?
