9th Lancers QC Anodised Buttons
Hi Chaps
Somewhere in the lengthy "Gaunt" thread I mentioned something about QC ANODISED 9th Lancers buttons being scarce or rare. This was based on the fact that I only have one (medium/large size, Gaunt) button in my collection and I can't recall seeing many other examples. A couple of weeks ago I bought a bag full of A/A buttons which I've just started looking through and I've just found another 9 Lcrs, also medium/large size but this one is Buttons Ltd. If at least two companies produced them perhaps they aren't as rare as I thought. I'm guessing that they didn't change from KC buttons until shortly before the 1960 merger with 12th Lancers? Speaking of which, does anyone have a QC Anodised 12th Lancers button? I haven't and I don't think I've ever seen one. I don't think Ripley lists it either. Would appreciate any feedback. David |

Hello David
The only 9th Lancers anodised KC button I have is medium size, 19mm, by Buttons Limited. I do have a large, 22m KC anodised button for the 12th Lancers, again Buttons Limited but no Queen's crown version Lucky they are mot marked 'Gaunt London' as that could take us to another place!! Roger |

Thanks for that. I have quite a few of the KC anodised from both regts - different sizes and different makers. That, in itself, tends to suggest they were made and worn for several years post 1952. Interesting that you have no QC examples from either regt. I finished going through the bag of buttons and have also found a 9L QC cap button, this one Gaunt. So, that's 3 QC A/A 9L I have now but no 12L. I suspect, as I mentioned above, that the anodised 9L QC buttons were only made c. 1959 and that quite possibly no 12L QC were made at all. David PS... just re-reading your post, for 9L did you mean KC or QC? |

My contribution to this thread is a 9th Lancers: An14QC.
I do not have any other anodised buttons with these two designs. |

Hi Tony
Thanks for that. It would certainly be interesting to see them, I suspect they are scarce to say the least. Please also indicate the backmarks if possible. David |

Hi Tony
Many thanks for that - it's certainly the first A/A QC 12L button I've ever seen and I don't know anyone else who has seen one either. KC A/A 12L & 9L buttons are quite common and I think they must have been worn until the late 1950's. Presumably QC versions were made shortly before the 1960 merger, perhaps they never actually made it into service and most were destroyed? It's only conjecture but one thing is certain, they are both rare; particularly 12L. Thanks again! David Last edited by davidwyke; 02-03-16 at 03:10 PM. |

Hi Bob
Many thanks for that, much appreciated! Your KC 9L & 12L & QC 9L seem to correspond with mine. Your QC 12L cap button corresponds with Tony above. It looks very much like the larger QC 12L were never made, or no longer exist! Thanks again. David |

9 Lancers
I'm not a button collector, but I am a hoarder, so I looked through my box of unsorted buttons. So far I've found two fixed shank anodised 9 Lancers buttons- both measure 15/16" in diameter.
KC = Firmin London. QC = Gaunt London. Stephen. |

Hi Stephen
Many thanks for that. The KC buttons are quite common and appear to have also been worn post 1952. The QC buttons appear to be fairly scarce. David |
