This is what I see. I hope you don't mind me using your picture. Of course, it is possible I am seeing something that is not there. I may also be off the point, just that I thought it might help to date the metal title.

Just to clarify, am I right in saying this 'LONDON' one is part of a title of separate parts? ...A bit like the older London RF one. And that this evidence points to a post-WW1 date?

Many thanks,

Chris
Chris,

Yes, the 'T/18/LONDON' title appears to be comprised of four separate components. Also, can confirm post-WWI, by dint of the fact that the London Irish riflemen in the photo are wearing the post-1923, white-metal cap badge.

Could very well be club-shaped but just not clear enough to be sure, in my opinion. Just a shame this chap's badge isn't displayed as prominently as his pal's:

Thank you very much for that clarification about the title and also for your generosity in sharing that image here. Another great one. It has certainly made me think twice. Now I look again, there is a fold in the soldier's sleeve which could have distorted the spade shape. Just goes to show. Apologies.

A shame Nozzer hasn't posted for a while. He might have offered to conduct one of his superb forensic reconstructions in his badge lab, and come up with a bit of empirical evidence demonstrating the various possibilities.

I was just getting this photo ready to upload to my forum album, when I noticed that the button on the epaulette might not be general service like the others. It looks like it might be a Royal West Kent 'lion above crown', to me.

If so, that would probably confirm this as 2/20th London Regiment, 185th Bde., 62nd (2nd West Riding) Division.
