Default 4th Royal Irish Dragoon Guards OSD

Seen this OSD cap badge, in an online dealers site. Any information on its construction? Not seen the backing disc before.

My first impression was perhaps it had some coloured backing cloth originally.

Then zooming in I saw it…

So looks like once upon a time green felt.

Can’t say I’ve noticed another like it before now.

Looks to be green felt. I've never seen a 4th RIDG badge similar.

I too have never seen one like this before. That said, I think it an extraordinary genuine badge.

I've seen one with a green enamel backing plate. Any sign it was enamelled?
Very rare!
