.... for any that are interested. Here is the DHIY Other Ranks bronzed cap badge showing the milk chocolate bronze coat still left in some of the crevices. Also showing the double collet on the fleur-de-lys in the coronet... note also the coronet rim is touching the central band.

... there you go
(Left) DHIY Other Ranks "bronzed" 1903-08 (Right) The full set from that die 1901-08. The first Officers cap Badge (collars were the same), the second Officers cap badge with scroll, then the Other Ranks including the bands collars. I have a hunch that the white metal was also used as the DHIY NCO Arm badge as well (changing to a cloth version post 1908).

Indeed, I have always liked them and they are far scarcer than the tapered version, interestingly, whilst looking through I noticed what you would describe as the mirror opposite as well as an identical example to which you show.
It is something that I like to see with Great War badges, but, my thoughts would be simply that I think it is important not to pay any extra for them. Quote:

Sometime ago I saved this stunningly clear photo, I cannot remember where I found it online so cannot credit the owner. If it offends anyone I shall remove. But I thought it relevant here as it shows the bronzed version of the Welsh Horse cap badge and the shoulder title beautifully. No name or date sadly. |

Now that is indeed a really lovely very clear portrait and it is nice to see the regimental titles actually being worn too, the amount of fakes of these on the market these days is annoying as well as making matter complicated when to comes to buy examples of them.
Sorry for taking your own thread a little off topic too! Quote:
