Chromed NSW Lancers Badge 1950s
We had an interesting thread recently on chromed rising suns worn by the Armoured Corps.
How about a chromed NSWL badge? Was it officially sanctioned? The normal WM badge is shown for comparison in the attached scan. Both have normal lugs and are maker marked (Swann & Hudson Frankston). |

What's the lugs like on the back? North-South or East-West?
My suspicion (not yet proved) is that these were over run badges from the batch used to make the regimental 1985 centenary badges. I also have one that is the same as the centenary badge except it has no number or dates engraved on the back. Mick

Both badges have north-south lugs and the maker mark in the bottom right corner. 1885 was very late for this pattern, they were well into the anodised ones by then.

Just comparing both badges side by side now....
Both have NS lugs but the lug holes in 1985 badge are horizontal but vertical for other badge. I also have some info about the anniversary badge as well - will have to try and dig it up. I might jump on the Lancers Facebook page and ask a question there about the badge. Mick

I believe this badge was also a private purchase item available to the members of the regiment in 1985 (same time as the anniversary badge was done).
The regiment is also going back to this pattern in 2016. Mick
