York & Lancaster Regiment other ranks coloured field service cap
Hi all,
Please see below for your interest photographs of an other ranks coloured field service cap to the York & Lancaster Regiment. My apologies for the first photo been a bit out of focus. It is however possible to get the colours and details of the hat from the other photo's. Kind Regards, FMT600 |

Does anybody know what unit this cap was worn by? It's been suggested that it's an early pattern REME and it's appeared on a web site identified as Fusilier Mont Royal.
The only Y&L CFSC I've seen images of is the representation in black, yellow and red on page 39 in the MHS's Coloured Field Service Caps by DG Glover. |

The wartime published pamphlet Regimental Badges and Service Caps illustrates examples of a cap in these colours as the attached extract shows. It would appear to be the coloured FS cap of the Royal Artillery which was adopted and worn by yeomanry and infantry units converted in the 1930s to gunner units who were allowed to retain their former regimental cap badges.
In which case this would seem to be an FS cap worn by 67th (York and Lancaster) Heavy AA Regiment, RA. Norman Litchfield's splendid Territorial RA book notes that the regiment retained the Y&L cap badge on conversion but in 1940 adopted the Gunner badge. As FS caps were a private purchase item mainly worn when off duty the Y&L cap badge may have been retained after 1940 on this style of hat by pre-war soldiers. Hope that helps. Jon |

Thanks, a close match, I think that the one shown with the Y&L badge in the photos differs in that it has a white vent.
It's hard to spot in the photos but it looks like a white "top"? |

I have a similar white topped FSC that I have never been able to identify. I am pretty sure that it is not Royal Artillery. It has also had black tapes added to the rear which might suggest a Scottish connection.

The now defunct "ServicePubs" site on Canadian CFSC's showed it (without the black ribbons) at one time as unattributed, after I'd queried it's ID there, later it was shown as Fusilier Mont Royal.

One of these CFSC's (without the tails) with appropriate badge and buttons was sold by e-medals as Fusiliers Mont Royal.
I'd like "proper" reference as to which unit wore the cap: https://www.emedals.com/wwii-les-fus...side-cap-c1050 |
