Default Canadian Rangers patch

I came upon this patch today...

I read some older articles that pointed to reproductions of this item.

Is it worth ($$) reproducing?

I understand that the rangers are an reserve unit composed of volunteers.

4,400 units at the present time.

Anyhow, is this badge a recent one or one of the originals, just after WW2 ??

(I noticed that it is unilingual...)

Oh... also.. does it serve as a cap badge?

Thanks

Hello Patrick, The Canadian Rangers were formed in 1947, inspired by the Pacific Coast Militia Rangers of WW2. The unit is made up of members from remote and northern areas of Canada. They are on ground intelligence gatherers, show the flag, and patrol and report on unusual happenings in their respective regions.
The Rangers have a uniform which includes the patch that you illustrate. Their uniform is a sweatshirt with Canadian Rangers on it, and a ball cap with the patch. For a period of time they also wore an armband with the patch sewn on it. Your patch appears to be an older issue unilingual example. I have not been able to establish when it came into use, or the changes in designation for the patches, but your example appears to be a good one. There are copies being flogged by, in particular, a Filipino repro artist, but I am not aware of any widespread copying.
