Hi Nigel - there is a WW1 Newfoundland Regt badge on e-bay right now (sorry, can't give you a link from the computer I am on) - won't come cheap though! They usually sell for well over $100 and last I looked this one was at about $120.
Cheers, Ian.

Hi martin, this is the WW1 pattern, worn by the Newfoundland Regiment.

Hi jo
Thank you for responding ,does it look complete? I have a good deal of interest in WW1 ,having seen my great grandfathers name on Thiepval Memorial and visiting Beaumont Hamel

Having never seen the back of an original one, I can't say for certain. Perhaps some colleagues can show one ???

Hi All,
Here are my Newfoundland badges. Reverse one is the bottom right of the group.
My wife and I were on the Western Front last year and made a special point of visiting the Newfoundland Memorial as well.

Hi Tinto
nice collection..looks like my badge has the front part of the antler missing, also one of the loop fasteners, apart from that, looks the same front and rear .is it a cap or lapel badge? I will make a point of going to the newfoundland memorial next time I go..all the best, martin

(also thanks Jo)

Hi Martin, The caps and collars for the WW1 Newfoundland Regiment are the same size. It appears that the front set of antlers are missing from your badge.

What an amazing find! Even though it's damaged, it's still a real piece of history.
I can definitely recommend a visit to the Newfoundland memorial park at Beaumont Hamel. The student guides do a fantastic job, and are a credit to their country. Next time I'm over for 1st July, hopefully I'll see the commemoration there. It's meant to be very good.

John

One small error in the Wikipedia entry on the current organization of The Royal Newfoundland Regiment. The Regiment consists of two, not three, battalions, the 1st with HQ at St John's and the 2nd with HQ at Grand Falls. The current cap badge is relatively easy to come by; Marway Militaria can probably scare one up.

Thanks Guys
the badge was found on a farm a couple of miles north of Guisborough which was i believe part of north yorkshire, but is now part of cleveland ,the newfoundland regiment may have been stationed near here before going to France...
