In theory, they never wore this design badge as a collar, and though some do exist but they are much smaller. But there is no evidence that the small type were ever worn.
If anything, the WWI economy is a closer match, but that should be on a slider and not lugs and is larger than this. I agree with fonmon, it is an oddity.

A small, but, very good ODS cap badge, a pity about the missing blades.

Of course, it is almost identical to the OSD I have, though mine is 38 x 38mm.

Morning Jerry,
Yes, you do often see SWB OSD smaller than the normal four centimetre, or so, wreaths, but, three and a half is certainly not unusual in any way, nice things. Regards Frank |

Various sizes of SWB silver & OSD bronze examples. The large silver one is hallmarked for 1898 and the smaller hallmarked one for 1942 from memory. The L&Co example is just marked Sterling. Together with a set of OSD collars.

Here's the collar version (only copied one as can't find the other at the mo') measures as you can see 3cm, have seen photo's of them being worn but haven't any RPC in the collection. Ta Jonathan DSC03670.JPGDSC03672.JPGDSC03677.JPGDSC03678.JPG |
