Crown confusion
Good afternoon
Not strictly military but police buttons. Just trying to clarify whether these are Victorian or St Edwards crowns. I can usually tell Victorian crowns but some on buttons cause me problems. The Derby button is made by James Smith and co Derby. The company has existed since around 1830. Are these Victorian? Many thanks Martyn Last edited by Martyn123; 22-07-17 at 11:18 AM. |

Hello Martyn
I would say all three crowns are Victorian. Nice buttons too! Roger |

Many thanks Roger and BC. They are quite attractive buttons and I have 7 of the Derby ones.

Certainly 'Victorian Era' but strictly speaking they are also 'Saint Edwards Crowns' dating from 1661 to currant times. It is the style and other features that make them 'Victorian Crowns' including there use in uniform badges & buttons.

Many thanks Mike.i have noticed that some have very square features in the styling whilst others are more curved. It's the curved ones that sometimes cause me confusion.
