Default Unidentified Victorian ? button

Good afternoon

Strange Victorian ? Button. May be a livery button. Any ideas anyone on date etc.

It is a livery button of an individual who was a Knight of the Garter.
The centre probably has his crest, but it is not a very good picture.

I'll look that up. These little buttons can be very interesting. The makers mark I think suggests pre 1890? But can't find much on the backstamp.

According to Military Button Manufacturers from the London Directories 1800 - 1899, the 15 Mill Street address dates it to 1884.

Martyn,
That is the date of the back stamp inscription. They were in business from 1873 - 1892, but apart from 1884 they were at 14 Mill Street.
