Default Matching Cap and collar restrikes. Worcs. R.

Sold these. I'm having them returned as restrikes. If duff I assume they are copies of some sort and not restrikes. came with a reliable bunch of other stuff. But that means nothing!

I was a bit curious as I'd not seen all gilt before, but the buyer says they are gilding metal as well so I cocked that up. So could these be ex OSD stripped of all finish? They are die cast, perhaps some repro collectors set?

If 'restrikes' then of note?

Mike,

They are not in Bennetts Worcstershire Regiment book and the nearest examples are as you suggest, osd bronze collars 1923-c 1930.

There were some similar collars in an old collection in the attached photo.

I dont think that the fact that collars like this are not in Bennett means much, one of the great things about our interest is that there many unrecorded badges that still come to light.

In these days of instant experts, if a badge is not in their one badge book then some collectors will say it must be a restrike. I am not saying that these collars are, or are not, right, I dont know, but I think militaria collectors need to approach the hobby with an open mind.

Hi Peter, thanks for the input.

Collar very similar to the pair in 2nd row in your photo.

I cannot help feeling these are something obscure rather than a copy. If not Worcs R. What about OTC / Schools? Any of our OTC specialists recognise them as anything? Is that a possibility?

I will not try and sell them again but if any of our regular (200+) posters collects (not for resale) to the Worcs they can have them for free once they are back to me.

After giving this matter further thought, senior NCO`s in some regiments wore collar badges that differed from Officers and Other Ranks so that might be a possibility.

Mike

I don't recognise them but all of the School OTCs converted to wearing the regt badges instead of school ones by the late 1930s so it is possible.

Thanks for the responses. I'm passing them on to one of our number that has offered them a home. Hopefully if he eventually finds an answer he will report back to this thread.
