As the RFC ceased to exist in 1918 it has to be before then.

Chinstrap looks to be a post Great War other Ranks strap-cap looks like an officers-as it does not look serge. Regards, Paul.

I'm with Paul, whilst the cap looks a period great War piece the chinstrap is too thick.

Was the brown "oilskin" type lining in the crown in use during WWI. I thought it was later.
What's the manufacturers mark please? |

Without the badge and buttons, I would have said late 1920's to late 1930's, from the length of the peak and the form of the liner and the sweatband. The chinstrap as already mentioned appears later than the date of the badges and buttons. Obviously the badge and buttons (& chinstrap) could have been added at any time, perhaps to increase the value of an interwars cap (to who knows what unit), to a great war RFC cap which I imagine would attract a premium price.

Thanks to all ,that is the info I needed as I have not seen a cap like this before. And yes i would imagine a correct cap would be a nice sum as I have seen lots of side caps but never a peaked cap.

What's the consensus on this cap? ORs or officers?
I thought the lining was the oilskin type, but is it that or just a cloth lining? To me, this appears to be a post WWI ORs cap, possibly as late as the 1960s, from the depth of the leather sweatband? Of course, I may be way out. |

I agree with Jerry, that it is a between the wars officers' pattern cap but with an OR's chin strap.

Thanks, doesn't mean a lot me though, I cant make it out.
Is the lining of that oilskin type fabric that I cant remember the name of and that I associate with officers caps, or is it of just a plain cloth please? |

Hawkes & Co moved to the new address in Saville Road in 1911, but continued to say Late of Picadilly into the 1930's. A shame really, as it would have made a convenient cutoff date when looking at their products.
