LV & W backstamp
Good afternoon
I have a backstamp LV & W on a Royal Navy captain's button of the type work up to 1843. Anyone know who this was? Many thanks Martyn |

Hello Martyn
I'm not into naval buttons so have never recorded their backmarks but there was a firm 'Larcom & Veysey' based in Portsmouth whose backmark appears on some military buttons mid to late 19th century. They were mainly known, however, as naval outfitters retailing uniforms, hats, swords, naval trunks (storage type, not swimming!) and so on. It is possible that a predecessor company was 'L V & W' (Larcom Veysey and ...?) as on your button. Might give you somewhere to start looking. Roger |

Many thanks Roger
I will see if I can research that company. It sounds highly likely they may have made the uniform for this button. Are you sure that they didn't make swimming trunks as well 😂. I've put a few pics on of the button (not RN 19th century issue swimming trunks). Martyn |
