Jack, I still think the peak is too long for WWI caps.

Here is one from my collection, Staff officers forage cap by Hawkes, same markings but note the liner, sweatband, chinstrap and the peak. This one is 1912 or later, and probably pre 1918.

Obviously forage caps and SD caps are not manufactured the same way.
