Ras al-Khaimah police Chief’s gorget patch?
Good afternoon
This has just arrived, it was advertised as a “Colonial Police Chief collar badge”, and comparing the button with badges posted on another thread* I believe it to have been worn on the bush jacket collar of the Commander of the Ras al-Khaimah Police. It measures 55 x 30mm, and the button is 16.5mm in diameter. As always I welcome comments, good or bad - because if I’m wrong I’d like to find out what it is, if I’m right it is another Emirate ticked off my list. *http://www.britishbadgeforum.com/for...ad.php?t=45971 All the best Graham

It's certainly a RAK button so I'm sure your attribution is correct. Nice thing!

Thank you Eddie. I should thank you twice, because without your interesting post on the RAK MF showing their badges last year I doubt I'd have looked at it twice. As it was I'd pressed "Buy It Now" before realising I was still logged into the firm's eBay account and not mine! Oops!
There is a photo in David Neild's book of him with the RAK Police Commander Trevor Bevan in which the latter has something like this on his jacket collars. Bevan's wife has written a book* on their travels policing various (former) colonies and protectorates which I'll get once the Glasgow police swap meet is finished next Sunday. *Sheila Bevan “The Parting Years: A British Family and the End of Empire” pub: 2001 [so not a 'new' book, but new to me]. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Parting-Yea.../dp/1860647340 Again, many thanks Eddie Graham

No thanks really needed, I am very jealous of that gorget! But at least we now know there were RAK buttons, probably worn by both MF and Army.
Really good catch. Eddie |
