Default 3rd Carabiniers

A pretty beaten up but very rare title as worn in India in 1945 by the 3rd Carabiniers when serving in 254 Indian Armd Bde. A former officer of the regiment whom I knew at HQ UKLF 20 years ago told me he was given the task, on behalf of the PRI, of destroying stocks of these titles when it was clear they could not be worn on the regiment's return to the UK. I nearly wept! Mike

Cool Official destruction

Mike,

I wonder how many times this process was repeated in various locations across the globe, cloth being easier to destroy than metal. No wonder some cloth items make a small fortune at auctions.

Cool Official destruction

When stocks of items appear as did the Glider Pilot shoulder titles a short while ago it often makes me wonder whether they have survived due to an order not being carried out for one reason or another.

Default 3 Carib

Talking of old stock: about 25 years ago I was invited into the Inns of Court HQ at Stone Buildings (now R. Signals) and got talking to the store woman. It transpired that one week earlier she had sent for disposal a Royal Mail sack (the very large sort) full of old cloth pieces that had been accumulating in the store since the year dot. I can only dream what I might have found if my visit had been a fortnight earlier.

Stephen.
