Hi Jonathan,
You’ve just reminded me I need to get this one straightened out. Into the hot water it goes.
Hwyl,
Kevin

Hi Kevin,
I’m not sure of the time line, I emailed the school archivist about ten years ago , but they were unable to confirm. They did send photos of the cadets , wearing the oval badge being worn in the 1920s . I think the MGS type are the earlier ones.
1904 A cadet corps part of the 4VB SWB was provided by the school and have seen photos of the cadets wearing sphinx collar badge in their slouch hats.
1908 cadet corps was sponsored by 2 Mons using Monmouthshire Regiment Dragon capbadge.
Cheers,
Dave

The oval serve-and obey cap badge was the one is use in the 1930's as evidenced by the correspondence EJ Martin had with the school in 1937. I have not found an end-date for it.

I am not sure that the oval badge with Serve and Obey was a slouch hat badge. It was certainly worn up to 1937 on the peaked cap and EJ Martin's article has a photo of it.

The attached photo is from the BBC website and unfortunately cannot be expanded. It looks pre WW1. I am not sure if there is a badge being worn but if there is then it might be the Mons dragon or the BGS oval badge?

I have never seen the BGS oval badge before but it seems likely it predated the one shown in 1937.
