Default Popski's Private Army badge

Hi all,

I found this badge in a tin of odds and sods years ago, but couldn't identify it so put it away with my other 'unknowns' in the hope it may someday reveal itself, it wasn't until recently I saw it on the web while looking for something completely unrelated.

Anyway, I'm hoping that you may be able to take a look and tell me what you think about its being an original or copy. The fact it was just mixed in with other badges and the wasn't singled out gives me some hope it's a could be a diamond in the ruff, but wouldn't be surprised if it is a copy.

I've taken quite a few shots from all sorts of angles that I thought may help. The zoom on the phone picks up quite a bit that isn't obvious to the eye.

It's about 31 x 22 mm, straight up the center and across the base. The front looks to be a plain white but the rear looks more like a white/brass mix, hard to say.

If there's anything else I can tell or show please ask and I'll get back to you with a better pic or clarify any points regarding the badge.

I've never seen another on in the flesh so cannot compare it with any other.

Please let me know what you think, cheers

Dan

There are a number of threads on the forum that discuss what to look for when trying to authenticate one of these badges. I am not an expert but your badge shows the wrong cancer symbol at two o'clock which is one way to determine if you have a reproduction.

A fake badge, the design of the astrolabe is wrong.

Hi Dan

There is something gained and its learning off experienced forum members.

I'm still very new to British WWII cloth FS and CST and I scour the forum for what to look for in WWII era cloth badges and I have made great contacts and if I'm not to sure I ask.

I have watched this thread to analyse what am I looking at to make it legit.

So we have gained more knowledge.

Phill
