Default Unknown flash Possible AIF?

Hi all

Need opinions on this cloth flash.

This a 2 piece felt.

Measure 7cm (70mm) x 5.5cm (55mm)

I had posted on the British side with no results.

However I did come across a WWI AIF 21st Bn flash with this colour scheme.

It should be rotated 90 degrees Black on red

cheers

Phill

Hi Phill, not a WW1 construction I am familiar with and our diamond patches were even, i.e., a square worn as a diamond. It might be late 1930s or early 1940s manufacture for 21 Bn but the shape is unusually distorted for Australian patches.

Hi Keith

Yes I agree the 2 pce felt is not WWI era as you say 30's or nore 40's.

The WWI variant I have seen was a thin felt or melton wool.

Can I then take it , it is 21st Bn WWII era?

hi phil
keith is the expert on these however i dont think its australian as per keith's previous post.
not the normal construction, not the usual material and wrong shape for australian.
at a push you could say late 30s but not one i would be happy to have in my aussie collection
canadian or NZ?

Thanks BC

Not Aus,Can, NZ or British.

Yes I'm getting that feeling its a mystery or a dreaded reproduction.

cheers for the input.

I think it might end up in that mystery box we collectors have.

I wouldn't give up on it Phill, given the huge variety of British cloth regimental distinctions from WW1 and WW2, many of which are undocumented, it is quite possible the answer is out there.

I believe the Southern Rhodesia Artillery in WWII and after used a red/black flash, though it may have been more square in shape

I must have had too much Christmas cheer to think straight anyway Phill, 21 Bn was disbanded in 1929 and its colour patch ceased to be issued thereafter. So definitely not post WW1, and the sizes definitely rule it out as bc stated, an Australian diamond was 50mm square.
