Default Irish Guards staff officer?

Hello all,
I have a WW2 battledress with Irish Guards shoulder titles and Guards Armoured Division insignia. Recently I've found faint evidence that it also once had gorget patches and colonel's pips & crowns. Is this a possible combination? Could a staff officer have Irish Guards titles if he was working at brigade level? Also, would the rank insignia have yellow backings for armoured corps or would they be staff officer red?
Cheers,
Burton

Default Irish Guards

Without checking notes, I think the Brigade of Guards were exempt from the coloured cloth backings, Arm-of-Service strips etc. Why they should have been given these privileges in wartime is beyond me.

Stephen.

Thanks. I've found another discussion with a claim that Guards officers wore their own special rank stars (with shamrock), and only metal not cloth so no coloured backings. Can anyone confirm this?

The Irish Guards certainly wore the metal pip with shamrock in centre.
