Default RASC collars

Hi All
Just found these collars in a 2nd hand shop, very nice pair though I am not sure if they are full dress or mess dress badges. Quite small so I am hoping they are mess dress examples. Can anyone enlighten me? I have shown one next to an O/Rs collar for comparison.
Thanks in advance, cheers,
Alex

Alex,

In the excellent book "Badges of The Empires Waggoners" it illustrates collar badges dating from 1919 to 1936 of the gilt and enamel type like yours.

It further states that Officers Mess dress collars were made in a smaller size and had a distinctly domed size.

However it doesnt give any measurements but measuring the badges in the book which I think are actual size I can say that the gilt/enamel mess dress collars are 35mm high whilst the gilt/enamel collars off other dress (presume blues) are 40 mm high.

Are yours 35mm or 40mm?

regards

Hi Mancs
Yes, that book sounds good. I have ordered a copy but will only get it in June when some relatives are coming to SA from the UK, bit of time to wait.
These badges are 24mm high by 22.5mm wide, so maybe the ones in the book are larger than life?
Cheers,
Alex

Alex,

I would definately think that at that size they are the smaller set, so would be for Mess Dress.

regards
