A mystery selection box
Hi all,
Can anyone help identify any of this little lot? A friend of mine bought most of it in a box for £10 because he wanted the war service badge. The NF badge and shoulder title were separate. Thanks for the help |

The general Roberts badge is a Boer War period patriotic badge.

As you probably know, the swastika badge is a 'good luck' charm from before the time it acquired a nasty reputation, so most likely pre 1920s.

Bottom image is part of a Certified Primo (2nd degree) jewel of the RAOB (Royal Antidiluvian Order of Buffaloes). Should be suspended from a dark blue ribbon.

The sepia looks like General Roberts of Boer war fame.

The RAOB were a popular fraternal order pre and post WWI, based on the comments aboveso this looks like a 1920s collection of 'interesting bits' with a patriotic theme perhaps. It would be nice to attribute it to an individual but, except for the Buffalo badge, all these were commercial in nature.

I live in Harrogate, home of the Grand Lodge of the RAOB and they have an interesting museum at Grove House, now open to the public for meals and bar, also used by around a dozen local lodges as well.

Thanks everyone, I don't think he has any real idea of what he has ended up with.
I know he was interested in the swastika having the "Mother and Home" text on, maybe it was a good luck charm for mother and home while their son was away fighting? He was also interested in the cross in the 4th photo, could that be Imperial German? I liked the pin badges but hadn't realised one was as old as that. The RAOB is of interest as well, I'll pass it all on to him. Thanks for the help, Michael |

The cross might be German, but equally, I think, Catholic and so assoiated with Spain, Austria or any RC organization.
