I take it that what applies to GG colour-sgts badges would also apply to the other Guards Regts?
No, no grenade with the other four regiments, and no equivalent. As for crown size for different ranks, there is of course no doubt that different sizes were worn by different ranks and also as part of different appointment or skill badges. BUT ............ PVCN 1907 only has one size in gilding metal 2461A, for service dress, 3/4d, and worsted, both large and small, 2485, 2486, at 5 3/4d and 4 1/4d respectively. NB these latter are in italics which signifies no longer to be made. If you look at price you will see why. PVCN 1913 has one size gilding metal, 1867 at 1/2d, and the only worsted ones are for the greatcoat with slight variations for different corps, at 5d or 5 1/2d. In the period 1902 to the end of the Great War rank crowns in worsted on the SD jacket officially were in two sizes until c. 1907, then should only have been issued for greatcoats. I have PVCNs after 1918 but tend to lose interest after the Great War! One last thing. Crossed swords as part of the colour badge go way back before Victoria to c. 1813 ........ single chevron, crossed swords, colour. |

No, no grenade with the other four regiments, and no equivalent. Oh, I wasn't expecting them to wear a grenade, that is the prerogative of the Grenadiers, I thought that the other 4 regiments' colour-sgts would have a rose, thistle, shamrock or leek in lieu of the grenade. So what badges would these colour-sgts wear in No 2 Dress? GTB |
