Default M.O.D Guard Service badge?

stumbled across this while badge prowling today. It seems to be missing some blue enamel. Anyone have the backstory?

A portion of the cold/plastic enamel has dropped out. Quite common.

Dave.

There could be a few reasons for this. On your pic of the back of the badge it looks to me if it has been repaired (badly, it has partly covered the maker mark) and this could have caused the enamel to come off if heat was applied.
It may have slipped through quality control, can't see that or someone has deliberately chipped the enamel off??
