CQB is Close Quarter Battle. No idea why someone had it made.

CQB usually stands for Close Quarter Battle but most likely a made up item?

Or part of the new Royal Marines organisation - Future Commando Force???

My suggestion is that it is not military but relates to either and Airsoft or Paintball team.

Exercise Tartan Eagle 2023 ?

Quote:
British Royal Marine Commandos practice room clearing tactics during close-quarters battle (CQB) training at Naval Support Activity Northwest Annex, Chesapeake, Virginia, July 31, 2023. CQB training allowed U.S. Marines and British Royal Marines to improve their skills in room clearing, and efficiently engage an enemy indoors. Exercise Tartan Eagle is an annual bilateral training exercise for the U.S. Marines with Marine Corps Security Forces Regiment and British Royal Marines with 43 Commando Fleet Protection Group

43 Commando is part of 3 Commando Brigade.

Thanks for all the replies. I don’t think it has anything to do with the Royal Marines and is most likely to be made up or airsoft related, but it was in a box of lots of other legitimate British Army DPM and OG slides and it’s always worth checking.........

I didn't think it was an official item but possibly a commemorative/souvenir item made for those who took part in Exercise Tartan Eagle.

It is possible but I don’t think it’s likely to be an RM item because the “dagger” is very crude and unlike any other Commando dagger badge (and could well be intended to be a sword). The abbreviation “CQB” is in very common usage and could be applicable to any army infantry battalion. The slides have come as a pair, which I think is unlikely for a commemorative item for a specific exercise.

If they are Army or RM issue, they could be for CQB instructors but I’ve never seen them and it seems neither has anyone else encountered them, hence my conclusion that they are probably fantasy (unless anyone else knows different).

I'm pretty sure that I have a camo version without the dagger. Will look when I get home from work

I think I can say with certainty that it is not an item worn by the British Army.

A DPM version of my OG one. Looking at the DPM, I would say it’s similar to that used just before CS95, so would date from the early 1990s, long before airsoft teams appeared and started to use military camouflage - maybe paintball?

I think Alan is right about it not being British Army, as someone would have recognised it. If it was for something like CQB instructors, it leaves no room for any rank insignia and they would inevitably be NCOs.

An unsolved mystery.......
