Help with Naval Cloth Cap Badge
Recently picked up this Naval Cloth Cap Badge at a local flea market.
Have been looking at images on the net to try to identify it and the closest thing I have found so far was similar to a WW2 Royal Navy Merchant Cap badge. This was due to the overall shape and design but mostly the matching sterling crests on the top of the cap badge. This badge has a flag embossed on it (Finnish?) with a crest as well. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. The badge itself is a wonderfully embroidered and designed. Best regards, CG |

Help with Naval Cloth Cap Badge
Hi CG
This is not a Royal Navy cap badge but the badge of a shipping line which would have been part of the Merchant Navy. I'm not an expert on the badges of the various shipping lines and companies but I'm sure someone on here will soon be able to identify which company it belongs to! Pete |

Just so you understand the last comment CG, 'The Andrew' is a slang term for the Royal Navy!

The centre of the badge appears to depict the "Prince of Wales" feathers.

Help with Naval Cloth Cap Badge
Hi CG
Been having a look at various shipping companies house flags and your cap badge could have been worn by an officer of the Liverpool and North Wales Steamship Company. That would certainly account for the 'Prince of Wales' feathers. However, as I said I'm not an expert on the Merchant Navy but the design appears to be the same. Help with Naval Cloth Cap Badge
Hi CG
I can now confirm that this IS a cap badge for the Liverpool & North Wales Steamship Company. This was a pleasure cruise company, based in Liverpool. It operated between Liverpool and North Wales, and Liverpool and the Isle of Man. The company existed between 1890 and 1962. I enjoyed researching this - far better than a boring sunday night's television! Regards Pete |
