Default RAAC Insignia Project

Hi Everyone,

Several years ago I started a project documenting the insignia worn by the Royal Australian Armoured Corps – badges, patches etc and compiled a brief PDF document about it.

I’m now in the process of expanding this and wish to include as many photos as I can showing uniforms, stable belts, brassards, badges and patches (official and unofficial) being worn by members of the corps from 1948 to today. I want to document these so that it becomes a record of what was worn and doesn’t become lost in the annals of time.

The aim is to produce a PDF document that will be made available at no cost to everyone. I’m even hoping to have this included as an article in a future volume of the corps journal – Ironsides.

As such, I’m seeking the assistance of the Royal Australian Armoured Corps community (both past and present) and also the general badge collecting community for pictures and information. If you have pictures of uniforms, stable belts, troop and squadron patches (especially unofficial ones) being worn or just pictures of insignia or uniforms in your possession, I’d be keen to hear from you.

I consider this project as something that preserves the corps’ history and tradition and as such am hoping for assistance from as many people as possible. All contributors will be fully acknowledged and credited within the document.

If you can assist with pictures or info, please PM me or email me at marmi01@gmail.com.

Regards,

Mick

Default RAAC Insignia Project

Attached are photos of 2 stable belts RAAC. that is if I can figure out how to upload photos as I am new to this

Red Yellow Red was generic RAAC belt I remember seeing worn in 8/13th Victorian Mounted Rifles in the early mid 1980's when I enlisted into VMR.

The Light Blue, Red, Purple with thin yellow stripes was ordered for VMR but was not approved for issue as the VMR decision makers were not happy with the design: A desired white stripe was omitted and the yellow stripes too thin.

A 2nd design VMR stable belt was submitted to Army Ceremonial in about 1984 and was approved. I don't have a photo of this belt but will upload if I find one.
